I’ve participated in the Race for the Cure, the Relay for Life, a number of 5k and 10k runs for charity and the Jingle Bell 10k Run for the Arthritis Foundation. That last race was a doozy since I had donated blood the day before the race. Blood banks don’t recommend strenuous exercise a day or two after donating and now I know why. My sister had to help me across the finish line.
Finally I can donate to a good cause without getting up at the crack of dawn to sweat it out with the masses.
Why the Arthritis Foundation? A woman I met as an impressionable teenager became the inspiration for my character Maddy in Rock Him. The type of arthritis Maddy has, rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, is a type of chronic inflammatory arthritis and an autoimmune disease that affects children and adults. Worldwide more than 175 million people have some form of arthritic disease and there are nearly 50 million sufferers in the United States.
